PTP / IEEE 1588 / TSN / Real-Time Systems

Engineering clarity for time-critical systems.

Kevin Stanton helps organizations design, troubleshoot, and explain complex synchronization systems across networks and computing platforms. The work spans open standards strategy, architecture review, implementation guidance, and difficult timing problems that need rigorous engineering judgment.

Where Stanton Consulting adds value

The practice is built around precision time as a system problem, from standards and architecture through silicon, PCIe, Linux, and deployment.

System Architecture

Guidance on precision timing design, IEEE 802.1 TSN adoption, distributed clocking, and how synchronized time changes the system architecture above the network.

Troubleshooting

Analysis of timing drift, sync instability, interoperability issues, timestamp accuracy, and the hard edge cases that appear between hardware, firmware, drivers, and software.

Standards and Expert Support

Clear technical support for product teams, leadership, industry groups, and legal matters where IEEE 1588/PTP, TSN, or computer timekeeping must be explained precisely.

Led by Kevin Stanton, Ph.D.

Stanton Consulting is a solo practice led by Kevin Stanton. His work has included defining major parts of IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking, contributing to IEEE 1588/PTP, and leading timekeeping efforts within Intel across CPU timekeeping, PCIe Precision Time Measurement, and Linux support.

That combination is unusual: standards leadership, platform architecture, silicon-aware timing design, and the ability to communicate specialized technical issues clearly to both engineers and non-specialists.

He also founded the TSN/A Conference in 2016 and helped found Avnu Alliance.

Available for consulting engagements, workshops, technical reviews, standards-related strategy, and expert witness work involving synchronization, timing, and computer timekeeping.
